I am an artist, designer and visual magician. At the Makerspace the medium that I focus on is Linocutting so in that sense, I am a printmaker. I consider myself an illustrator as well, as I make a lot of hand drawn pieces. I’m passionate about healing, and exploring how we find and dance with this idea of ‘well-being’ and how we can reclaim our wild creativity. I focus particularly on women reclaiming their power and releasing the ‘good girl’ and ‘people pleasing’ conditioning that so many have received, myself included. Therefore my work is simultaneously very personal and speaking for a collective. I find that my audience deeply resonates and connects with it; it makes them feel seen.

I mostly make wheel thrown pottery and occasionally small sculptural objects. I want to make objects that are used and that become part of daily rituals. I have been potting on and off for the last 43 years. I studied ceramics in my hometown in Rovaniemi, Finnis Lapland. After graduating I have been doing pottery as a business and teaching. I was running pottery classes as therapy at the Lakes psychiatric hospital for 22 years which I enjoyed a lot.

I am a visual designer and illustrator who likes to explore different ways to express myself. As much as I am excited by the latest technologies and their promise, I am equally or more intrigued by the magic of making things by hand. Clay and ceramics are my newfound love that lets my whimsical world to break out of the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional one.

What I do is still work-in-progress. I feel I am still on the path to where I want it to be. Most of my personal projects have been about documenting everyday life and experiences. My drawings mostly tend to be realistic and not abstract leaning towards the genre of visual journalism. I use hand lettering and illustrations in various ways to tell the stories that excite me.

June 2, 2023 Minahil Malik

I predominantly specialise in illustration and printmaking. Interested in the contemporary social mirrors embedded within today's society, I often use social media to feed my inspiration and tend to reflect my themes in a contrastingly physical environment. However, as of more recent, I've been taking a softer approach to my themes and am just enjoying making things that aren't too serious or kind of entertain me.
